Is your child struggling with anxiety, depression, attention, following directions, listening, having temper tantrums or family changes causing distress in the family? I have worked with children from as young as 3 years old from diverse backgrounds. Because all members of a family impact one another, I takes a systems approach when working with children of all ages. This means meet will meet with caregivers, children and other family members that are impacted by the situation that is causing distress.
Structure of treatment for children of all ages begin with a meeting with the caregivers first to get a family history and information regarding the presenting problem. Subsequent appointments will be with the child only where treatment will be tailored to meet the needs of your child and family. I have been trained in attachment- focused therapy, play therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy and often uses hands on techniques to help integrate the experience more fully. Additionally, I use the understanding of how the brain develops to guide treatment as needed. Generally, caregivers will be asked to check in at either the beginning or end of the session depending on what the child prefers. Sessions may include caregivers and child together to encourage the parent to learn skills to help support their child with coping and managing behaviors and emotions.
