I have worked for over 10 years with many people ranging in age from young child to adult that have experienced a trauma. When an individual experiences a trauma the effects can be long lasting and impact the individual both in their body and mind, which can lead to unproductive coping skills. I have been trained in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy as well as Integrative Treatment of Complex Trauma for Adolescents which act as a starting point for trauma- informed therapy.
I believe in the body’s memory of trauma and have extensive experiencing dealing with how the body and mind work together when an individual has had a trauma. Movement, guided meditation or imagery, art and music are often used to help the brain integrate the feeling and thinking parts of trauma and help the individual regain control over their body and mind. If a child, tween or teen has experienced the trauma I work with the parents to ensure their understanding of how trauma impacts the body, and will provide practical solutions on how they can support their child through their healing journey.
